Choosing To Stay At Home VS Renting/Buying For Your BusinessCopyright © Roderick Eash
http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comMaking the right choice for your business in regards to whether you want to stay at home
or invest in some type of building is sometimes a difficult one, especially when you look
at some of the disadvantages. Certainly, you save money working at home, but at the
same time, many people are faced with the dilemma of people knowing they are working
t home and think they are free to run all their errands for them. This is especially a
problem for women who may have friends who work jobs away from home and don't
seem to have time to do the things that they need to do after work. They find it difficult to comprehend that even though your business is at home, you have just as much work to do
as they do. For many business owners, this seems to be a difficult situation, and they find
themselves finding it difficult to say no, except for perhaps the day care provider who
would have to drag several children along to run chores for friends and family.
On the other hand, if your business doesn't require a separate facility, it's much cheaper to
operate out of your home than to go to the expense of investing in a separate locality.
You have to be careful, though, because some counties have deed restrictions that
prohibit you from operating some types of businesses, and you will need to apply for a
variance. In most cases, these restrictions are the result of potential increases in traffic or
parking problems because of your business venture. This may be a problem if you are
planning to open a retail shop over your garage since there is likely to be a constant flow
of traffic to and from your home. The same may also hold true for a secretarial service
because even with appointment times, you are liable to have people who want to drop in
to deliver or pick up projects, and you may not wish to turn them away.
Working your business at home if you have young children can be troublesome because
of the amount of distractions. If you consider doing it to avoid daycare costs, you should
rethink your analogy unless your home business is one that you can do as you see fit such
as in the field of freelance writing and editing. If you have clients coming to your home,
or you perform freelance legal or medical transcription, you will need to be available
during the daytime to perform these functions, and you will need to be free of
distractions. That means you will still want to place your children in daycare if they are
under school age; if they are in school, you may still want to consider after school care
unless they are older and able to come home and participate in quiet activities until you
have finished work for the day.
