Why Consider A Home Based BusinessCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comMany feel they are comfortable with the life and job they currently have. However, when you consider the benefits you can have by changing from your current job to a life of a home based business owner you may join the many that are considering this option today. Depending on how focused you work you could complete a weeks worth of work in just two days and have the rest of the week to spend with family or doing your favorite hobby. In addition, home based businesses are very mobile so should you need to travel or take a vacation you can easily take your work with you. People often don’t realize how much of their day is spent working until they have a home based business and realize how much extra time they have available. When working a regular job you likely find yourself spending two or more hours a week commuting from home to your workplace. Wouldn’t it be great to never have to do this again. You can be your own boss which means a home based business allows you to get up at the hour you want and there is no commute time to worry about. In addition, you can set your own vacation times and determine how much you are going to make. If you prefer having things planned out then a home based business is likely a good option for you. With a traditional job you don’t have your boss planning out everything for you. With a home based business you can follow a simple marketing system. In addition, following this system doesn’t require experience so you can make a lot of money without having to go back to school to do so. The most common home based business is direct sales. With this system you can have a job that is designed to benefit you and many have seen financial freedom through this industry. You can easily get serious results with this business if you are an ambitious person. With this job you can work three to four hours a day and you can easily get your currently annual salary in a monthly income. Perhaps the greatest benefit aside from the income of a home based business is the ability to have freedom. You can choose to live where you want and you will be able to work there. No more selecting a house based on its proximity to where you work. In addition, there is freedom to live your lifestyle however you want. Take a vacation when you want and set your own hours. Those who receive the greatest benefits of a home based business are families. You can work just a few hours in the morning or evening and have the entire day free to spend in rewarding activities with you family. This way you will be there for every day of your child’s life and not have to worry about missing anything important. What To Expect When You Start A Home Based BusinessCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comChoosing to start a home based business can be a major turning point in an individuals life. This means you have to expect some life changes if you are going to start a home based business. It is best to familiarize yourself with the advantages of a home based business first. Perhaps the main reason why many choose a home based business is because of the advantage of time. When you own your business you don’t have to go to work at set times and you don’t have to go to work every day. If you arrive late for work or skip a day during the week you won’t have to worry about getting in trouble. A home based business means you will have more time for both yourself and your family. However, it is always important not to take too much advantage of your freedom since you will need to make sure you allot enough time to complete the requirements of your home based business. Make sure you never give in to the thought that you can always do the work later. In order to have success with your home based business you need to do the work as early as possible and not put it off until the last minute. Consider putting together a list of things you want to accomplish each day. The items on the list should be things that help you to keep your business on track and help prevent un-productivity from setting in on your business. This way you can be more motivate by complete the list of things before you can spend the rest of your day free doing whatever you want. When it comes to a home based business you shouldn’t expect to have instant success. You have to start out small in order to have a big business. In order to get to the top you will need both patience and time, but with enough hard work and determination you will gain great rewards from your home based business. Running a home based business also requires organization. You need to be both organized in your home and in your time management in order to efficiently operate your business. Proper time management will also allow you to shorten the number of hours you work each week and provide you with the opportunity to take on more projects. Perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind is the fact that it isn’t as easy to operate a home based business as you may think. You can reach your goals for a home based business as long as you manage your time and focus your efforts on generating your income. Although challenging you can enjoy many benefits with a home based business. Tips to Keeping Start Up Costs Under ControlCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comAt first there were only a limited number of options for those who wanted to work from home, but today there is many options to choose from. As a result many home based businesses require a lot of equipment that would normally be found in a corporate office. Although when you are just starting a home based business the cost of all this equipment can cause some big credit issues before you even get going. However, there are some ways you can help control the costs of starting a home based business. The first thing you must do is decide on which equipment and supplies are absolutely necessary to your business operation. While there are a lot of appealing supplies and equipment that can no doubt make your business run smoother, do you really need them to make your business operate effectively? While this may sound like common sense when operating a business it is also one of the biggest mistakes that small business owners make. So always consider what you are purchasing before you put the money into it for your business. A garage sale or an auction can be an excellent place to find used bargains on all the supplies and equipment you need for a home office. When you know of a garage sale or auction it is best to arrive early and if possible even call early and ask if they have anything you are looking for. This way you can be sure to get the equipment and supplies you need for cheaper than you would pay in an office supply store. An option you should look into is purchasing slightly older equipment at garage sales and then using them as trade ins towards a newer piece of equipment. You can often get up to five hundred off the purchase price of a new piece of equipment if you know what to look for at the sales. You can also save money by getting rid of what you don’t need and recycling what you do have. If you find you haven’t used a piece of equipment or some supplies for awhile then consider either throwing it out or selling it. You will not only be freeing up space in your home office but you will also be gaining some money in the process. Don’t just store old equipment in your house, this will just make additional clutter you don’t need. The same goes for filing cabinets. If you think you need a second one because you no longer have room, clean out your first filing cabinet. You will often be surprised at how much room you really have when you throw out the papers you don’t need. For important papers that you need to keep, but are taking up room in your filing cabinet consider storing them someplace safe such as a bank safe deposit box to clear up room in your home office. Doing this will prevent you from spending money on new furniture you don’t need. Tips to Avoiding Home Business ScamsCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comLikely you have seen many advertisements for home business scams that seem too good to be true. Each year people fall for these scams and millions of dollars are lost. Many of these scams are aimed at individuals such as stay-at-home parents, unemployed individuals, the elderly, disabled and those with low incomes. However, you can avoid these scams by learning to tell the difference between a legitimate home based business and a scam. The first hint of scam is always when the offer seems to be too good to be true. Always remember that if it seems like the best deal you’ve heard then it likely isn’t going to be true. If an opportunities claims you can make a whole lot of money within a very short amount of time it is likely a scam and should be avoided no matter what. Another clear indicator that you are dealing with a con artist is when they ask for money up front. While home businesses will commonly need money invested up front, the legitimate companies will never ask you to pay them just to hire you. If you are going to pay for an upfront fee it is best to use a credit card and not cash since a credit card offers an easier way to get your money back should the opportunity be fraudulent. Never feel like you have to respond immediately to an offer. Rather take your time to research the company and make your final decision. Taking you time will also help since a company that tries to force you into making a decision is likely going to show you that they aren’t a good business to deal with. Go to the Better Business Bureau and make sure no claims have been filed against them. If the company has no telephone number of uses a PO Box than you should stay away from them since these are good signs they aren’t legitimate companies. Also before signing with a company ask them for a detailed refund policy in writing before you join. Always be on the lookout for the common scams. The opportunities that ask you to call a 1-900 number to get more information are scams since you will have a minimum thirty-five dollar charge for making the call and part of that goes to the person running the scam. Other common home based business scams that you should avoid include envelope stuffing, product/craft assembly, pyramid schemes, medical billing, type-at-home and unsolicited emails/internet schemes. If you become a victim of a scam then you should try to contact the business first and ask for a refund. If this doesn’t work then you should notify them that you will be contacting the law enforcement officials. Then it is best to contact one or more of the following : The Federal Trade Commission, the Better Business Bureau, the Attorney General in your state or the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. The Big Idea Behind Home BusinessCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comSure you want to start a home business, who doesn’t? The hours are going to be great, and you are going to see that you can actually work from home and make just as much money as you are making now – without any worries about having to go to work on snow days or go to work when you aren’t feeling well. Working hard has a different meaning when you are working for yourself, and this is why a lot of people turn to home business after they have struggled so long in the regular business world. They simply want more freedom, and they want to be their own boss. Who can blame them? Big Idea However, with so many people entering the home business market, the fact remains that there are simply a lot of home businesses, and not all of them are going to be making a profit. So how do you pick one that is going to appeal to you, and how do you pick one that is actually going to succeed? Steps To Finding It There are many ways that you can go about finding a home business idea that will fit your needs and will be a success. However, the best thing that you can do is think about the two factors of what you already can do. Number one, you need to figure out what you are really good at – the things that you can simply do better than most of the people around you. Then, think about what you really love to do, such as a hobby or something that you love to do in your spare time. Once you have these two things, brainstorm ways that you can fit them together. This might be the key to your big home business idea, because the best businesses are going to be the ones that people enjoy running. The people who love what they do are going to be the ones that do it best, and that is for sure. Remember as well, in order to have a successful home business, you either need to be providing someone with a service, or you need to sell something to people. These are the two broad categories that you have to make sure your home business fits into, because if you can’t be sure that you are either selling something or providing a service, your home business might not be on the right track. There are lots of people that are going to be doing what you do, no matter what you choose to do for your home business. The last thing that you have to do to make sure that you have the big idea that is going to work is see if you can figure out a way to make your big idea better and bigger than anyone else’s. Then, you might be able to be successful. Taxes and the Home BusinessCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comJust because you work at home does not mean you are not subject to the same taxes as any other business venture. The difference is that because you do work at home, it's much easier to hide the income than that of a brick and mortar business. On the other hand, the time will come that you will be caught if you don't operate your business on the level. What makes it so easy is that companies are not required to provide a 1099 unless they pay you at least $650 in a year, and if you are a freelancer who works for a variety of people, you may not make that amount with just one client. . If no one is sending a 1099, that means you have to keep track of your own income as well as expenses. There is a certain income level where you are required to file a Quarterly Tax Return, so you want to make sure that you make yourself aware of that so that you don't incur a penalty for not filing it. You also have to file your state taxes as well based upon your state of residency. Other taxes that may be involved include gross receipts taxes, local taxes (city and other municipalities), and sales tax in most states (if you are selling products) just to name a few. It is advisable to enlist the services of a tax accountant or tax advisor in order to be certain that you are filing all of the tax forms that you are legally required to file. Other taxes you may have to pay yourself as a sole business owner includes Social Security and Medicare taxes. Although you are not required by law to pay these since you don't have employees, if you desire to make use of these services when you retire, you will need to make the contributions yourself. That means you will need to pay both the employer and employee percentage of the taxes. You can, however, choose to simply invest in an IRA Plan. If you had a 401K or an IRA when you were working, you can take the money and roll it over so that you don't have to pay taxes on the distribution. Since you are now self-employed, if you don't open your own retirement account, you will have nothing when you are ready to retire unless your spouse has Social Security income into which he or she pays. You may also want to have a tax attorney on retainer in case anything should happen with your taxes and you find the IRS calling you for an audit. Businesses are more likely than individuals to be audited, and it's in your best interest to have an attorney with you. Home Business vs. Brick and Mortar BusinessCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comFor some people, the idea of a home business seems a foreign language. They cannot understand how a home business can bring in more income than that of a business that is formed in a solid building. It's much the same line of thinking of those who shy away from the concept of network marketing—it's not a traditional business, so the idea frightens them. Of course, if you do your research and choose a business that is compatible with your skill level and experience, a home business can be more profitable than a brick and mortar business. Some of the reasons why they may happen are described below. One of the major reasons a home business can be more profitable than a brick and mortar is overhead. For example, a home business does not require payroll expenses, a sophisticated security system, business phone system, and inventory just to name a few. That doesn't mean that your home business will not have overhead because any business you operate has expenses connected to its operation. The difference is that a home business has a much lower rate of overhead since you are using your home. There is no need for additional electric, phone, gas, or water lines, thus only a portion of the usage of those commodities is expensed for the business. Also, unless you hire people who actually work for you as opposed to outsourcing the work, there is no need for insurance except for yourself. You may need to change your homeowners' policy to accommodate the business part of your home, but you shouldn't need an entire new policy – even if you do, the cost will be much lower than that of an entire building. If you have a brick and mortar business, you can certainly not bring your children to work, even if they are school age. For one thing, it will be difficult to put them on the bus from another location, so having a brick and mortar business facilitates the need for either day care or a babysitter if you children are young. With a home business, you may be able to avoid childcare expenses if your children are old enough to understand that you are working and cannot be disturbed. This is especially true if they are all in school since you can probably do most of your work during those hours. You also don't have to worry about losing time from work they are ill or daycare is closed—you just need to rearrange your work schedule. Some types of home businesses may allow you to work when your children are there, but if you meet clients, home or away, you should arrange to have your children placed in daycare or with a babysitter. Home Business Ideas for TeensCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comSo You Need Some Money… So you’re a teenager, and you want to make some money. Everyone – young adults included – need money. After all, nothing comes free these days. Books cost money, movies cost money, music costs money, and dates cost money. As someone who hasn’t finished your schooling, your options are still a little limited – you can’t exactly saunter into the bank and ask for a loan. Neither are parents always forthcoming with giving their children hard cash. (Especially if they don’t like what you’ll spend it on anyway.) Don’t despair, however: There is one other way for you to get some cash, and for the most part your parents won’t mind if you do it. If you’ve even glanced at the title, you probably already guessed what you can do. That’s right: You can work. If the things that you want are really worth it, then you shouldn’t mind having to get down and dirty to attain them. In other words, you should be willing to work and earn the things that you value. A Few Ideas to Get You Started Babysitting. This is probably one of the most basic of home business ideas for teens out there, but it is also one of the most effective. It doesn’t take much to be a good babysitter. If you’re a reasonably responsible individual, and have had some experience with kids, then babysitting might be for you. It helps if you have your own siblings, so you have an idea of how children behave and what works with them. It won’t be hard to find people who need a babysitter. Ask around. Let your neighbors know that you’re available for babysitting services should they need it. By carefully following instructions (parents often leave quite a few behind), you should have no trouble at all managing a babysitting business. Walking dogs. Here’s another basic home business idea for teens – taking care of pets. Usually, this takes the form of walking dogs or feeding them. Similar to babysitting, you probably will have to follow some specific instructions, but it shouldn’t be a problem for you. Menial jobs. If you are in reasonably good shape, taking on some menial jobs can be an option. Mowing lawns or garden work are good choices. If you’ve never done this sort of work before, you’ll have to acclimate yourself, but you can do so fairly quickly. Just about anyone can do menial odd jobs, so you shouldn’t let inexperience stop you. As in babysitting, you might want to ask your neighbors first if they need anything done, before branching our further from home. As long as you are willing to work, there is probably a home business idea that can help you earn a little extra cash.
