Hiring People To Help You With Your BusinessCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.commatter what kind of business you have, hiring the right people is the key to making it successful. You need good employees, and if you start out with the right group of people, your business will become successful much quicker than if you have to go through a process of hiring and firing people because they just aren't the right people to meet your needs. One of the mistakes you want to avoid is hiring your friends and relatives just because they "expect" it. Certainly, if they are qualified to do the job, there is no reason not to hire them as long as you are capable of separating business relationships from personal relationships. In other words, there must be an understanding that they will be treated no differently at work than any other employee and that you will not make any special allowances. If you fail to do that, you are setting yourself up for controversy from your friends and relatives because you don't treat them differently or from your other employees because you do. Most new business owners don't have a clue about hiring people to work for them, so you may to consider some college credits on human resource education and tactics, choosing good employees, or similar subjects. If you are not comfortable with the idea of hiring staff members, you might enlist the services of a recruitment firm to at least help you get some prospects into prospective. It's important to remember that the agencies are not free, so you may not have the funding that is necessary to enlist their assistance; however, the state employment service is free, and there is an office in every state and county within that state. You will learn by your mistakes, but you also want to make sure to make those minimal by learning the right questions to ask and making it a point to check previous references. Don't trust your "gut instincts," because they are not always correct. When you hire people to help you with your business, don't hire them because they looked nice, or talked nice, but combine all of the qualities into forming a profile of each person you interviewed. At the same time, don't look past the person who comes to the interview dirty and unkempt because unless he or she is coming directly from another job, this is an indication of what to expect from that person. Also, if someone is late for an interview with no valid excuse, it may be an indication of a poor record of punctuality. Even the person who came from another job unkempt must not be taken at face value – consider whether they left the job in enough time to clean up or whether you could have scheduled the interview a little later. The first impression is the lasting one, so keep in mind your first impression when you make your choice. Going To College For EntrepreneurshipCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comPeople who would like to succeed in their business should go to college for entrepreneurship. The entrepreneurship education can provide the students with the right knowledge and skills to succeed in the various business settings. In fact, according to experts, people who have gone to college for entrepreneurship have 10 times higher success rates in setting up and running their own business as compared to those who do not have any formal business education. Can Entrepreneurship Really Be Taught? There have been a lot of arguments in the past as to whether or not students can really be taught the art of becoming an entrepreneur. Many people believe that the entrepreneurial spirit is born not made. According to these people, there are certain types of individuals who are natural born entrepreneurs and these individuals can engage into business even without much training. A natural born entrepreneur is said to be adept at spotting business opportunities and turning these business opportunities into veritable gold mines. While there are a lot of people who believe that entrepreneurs are born and not made, there are also a lot of experts who believe that a college education is still very important. According to these people, going to college will greatly enhance the natural skills of a person. Although entrepreneurship is all about guts which cannot be taught at school, an entrepreneur who have all the guts but do not know anything about strategies will end up at the losing end of the business arena. We should never discount the great importance of learning the basic principles of business management, financial management and business planning. We must always remember that it is not safe to rely on guts and luck alone when it comes to our business. Note that even gamblers understand that sooner or later they will run out of luck and they could not just rely solely on luck to could not just rely on luck to win all the time. As most gamblers know, strategies and mathematical skills are also important to ascertain their chances of winning in a given game. Bigger Income Recent studies showed that most people who graduated from a college for entrepreneurship generally earned bigger than those people who did not go to a college of entrepreneurship. According to this study, graduates from the college of entrepreneurship who put up their own business earn 27% more than those people who went to business school but did not major in entrepreneurship. On the other hand, graduates of the college for entrepreneurship who were employed in companies all over the country as found to be earning higher salaries as compared to graduates of other business courses. The higher income of these graduates is attributed to the fact that these people have learned some valuable skills in handling business while they were in college. Going Outside Of Your Comfort Zone To Start A BusinessCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comOne of the things that you have to remember about starting a business is that not everything is going to be cut and dried, and not everything is going to work as you planned. This means that running a home business sometimes requires you to go out side of your comfort zone and to do some things that you might not usually do. Be Brave The thing about starting a home business is that it can be very successful and you can see great things that come out of it, but you have to be brave enough to get started, and you have to have the guts to simply go for it, and to get it done. This is something that might be tricky for some people, because starting a home business can be rough going and because you aren’t guaranteed to be a success, some people might have trouble with it. This means that when you are the one starting a home business, you have to be the one who is brave enough to go outside of where you are comfortable, and be willing to take these risks to see what kind of business you can create. Money The biggest problem with starting out with a business is that you are going to need some money. If possible, you should try to work and save some money up before you venture out into your own home business. This might be tricky, because it is sometimes hard to save money, but if you can save some money up from a regular job, you might find it is much easier to start a business. Going outside of your comfort zone is often easier when you have a little bit of cash so you don’t’ have to worry about it. The other thing that you can do to make going outside of your comfort zone easier is to find a way to have a good business plan. Even thought it might not always end up being exactly what you want it to be, you might find that a good business plan is a great way to help yourself have the courage to go for it and to take the risks that you have to take. When you are going out on your own to start your home business, a business plan can help you have the courage to go for it and to get stuff done. Remember that this isn’t going to be easy, but if you can manage to go with the flow and to not stress out about things you cannot control, you might find out that you are able to deal with the uncertainty as you deal with many other things – and it might just be a good experience for you which allows you to learn, to grow, and to generally be a success in your life. Getting Your Family Involved In Your Home BusinessCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comWhen you first open a home business, like it or not your family is involved. Whether it is peripheral involvement by staying out of your way while you work, or taking an active role in running the business, getting your family involved in your home business can actually help its chance of success. In what capacity family members are able to be involved will depend on the type of home business you operate and the age of some of the family members. Obviously, really young children will not be able to offer a lot of assistance, but as they grow older finding tasks around the house can be beneficial for you, to help remove the burden of some time-consuming, yet non-productive tasks, such as sweeping the floor in the office or emptying the trash cans. Offering to pay them a small “salary” for their efforts they can begin to learn the importance of working for what they want. Unfortunately, there are many parents who get so wrapped up in running their home business that they tend to ignore the children, even when they are old enough to start offering some real help. By getting them involved early, they will not only learn a work ethic and the meaning of working for their money, but they may also take an interest in the business and run it someday when you retire. As far as other family members, hiring them may work, but to do so you must go through the hiring process the same as you would any potential employee. If there is one position to fill and after interviewing family and other applicants, all things being equal it may work to hire a relative that is qualified for the position. The interview should give you an idea if they want the job with the company or just want you to pay them for showing up sometimes because you are related and don not want to anger Uncle Bill. It would need to be clear from the start that you are running a home business in order to make a living, not to keep all the relatives employed and if they fall below established standards then they will no longer be employed by you. Additionally, if a relative has to be let go for any reason and your aunt, uncle or whoever calls to complain, as long as the individual is over the age of majority in your state, you owe them no explanation. In rare cases a husband and wife home business cruises along to great success as they both have the same financial goals in mind. It is imperative that of the two one person is in charge of certain decisions and there is always opening for discussion, but once the final decision is made, it will be followed by both. In many other cases, spending the entire workday together as well as the rest of the evening, neither party has a break from their “work partner,” which can lead to dissention at home. Finding Funding For Your Business VentureCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comIt is very common for entrepreneurs to have problems finding capital for their start-up business. If you are one of those entrepreneurs who can’t seem to find money to get your business going, do not lose hope. There is always a way to find some money to serve as start up capital for your business. Going To The Bank The best source for capital for your business is the bank. Explore the possibilities of getting a loan from one of the commercial banks near you. Although commercial banks are often reluctant to provide loans for start-up business, there is always a possibility that the bank will let you borrow some money especially if you have a very good credit history. Banks are always open to negotiations when it comes to people with very good credit history so draw up that business plan and then go to the bank and try to sell the business plan to them. You’ll never know if they ill buy it or not unless you give it a try. If the bank will not give you a loan based on your good credit history alone, you can pledge a security for the loan. If you have some real estate properties, you can use these real estate properties as collateral for the loan. Just be very careful about using your home as collateral for your loan because you might end up without a roof over your head if your business fails. In case you do not have any properties that you can use as collateral for the loan, explore the possibilities of getting a government guaranteed loans. The US Small Business and Administration has loans programs for entrepreneurs so ask around and learn more about these loans programs. The good thing about these loans programs that are guaranteed by the government thus you will most likely be required to put up minimal collateral to secure the loan. What is more interesting about these types of loans is that the interests are usually very low and the terms of payments are easier compared to the standard commercial loan. How can you qualify for government secured loans? If you are really interested about these government guaranteed loans, you should go to the proper authorities and ask for information. You may also go online and search for some information about these government loans programs. Getting Money From Other Sources If you cannot get any money from the bank, your next option would be to borrow money from friends and relatives. If your parents happen to have some extra money stashed away in their savings account, ask them to lend you some money to get you started. Just make sure that you pay them back promptly so that they will still lend you money the next time you needed additional capital for your business. Finding A Great Contract Writer For Your BusinessCopyright © Roderick Eash http://www.TheEashSyndicate.comWhen you have a home business, chances are that you are going to have a lot to do already, and that you might be wanting to delegate some tasks to make sure that everything gets done and that it gets done in a timely manner that will actually make you happy and that will make your time complete. One of the things that you simply might not have time to do is all of the writing that goes a long with a home business. No matter what type of business you have, there are going to be things that need to be written, whether they are proposals, website information, or other things that you want to let the public see. You are going to need a contract writer – one who can take a look at your business and who can write for you. You need a contract writer who is a serious and good writer, and who is going to follow through on your writing needs. The best way to find a great contract writer is to look online with some freelance agencies. You have to decide whether you want to hire a writer who employs other writers, or a writer who is actually going to be doing the writing for you. Which one of these you choose is going to depend on how much you need done. If you need a lot of things written, and if you need them written fast, there are many writing groups you can go to and order bulk writing work. Probably you can get all of the things you need done written in several days, or a week or two at the most. This means that you’ll have the things you need, and you’ll be able to get started with writing. However, this also means that your writing is going to be done by several employed writers, so you aren’t guaranteed that all of your writing will be at the same level. If you go with a writer who is only writing for you ,you are going to find that your writer needs more time to get the things done that you need. However, with this route, you are paying one person, and this person is doing the writing. You are working directly with the writer, and therefore you can tell them exactly what you want. This is a route that you can go if you don’t have a lot of things to be written, and you don’t need them right away. In this method you can find a writer who meshes well with you and who can get your writing work done. This might end up being very important, depending on exactly what you need written.
