How To Go Into Business With A Friend
Copyright © Roderick Eash
http://www.TheEashSyndicate.com

When two or more people have known each other a few years and decide to take the plunge into a business together, there are a few considerations they should look at before making it official. Being business partners is very similar to being married as every decision one person makes will affect the other and there is going to be time when they cannot agree on things.

Going into business with a friend is going to take good communication as well as periods of compromise, but it will also need to be an equal partnership to prevent one person from being overly dominating, which may eventually ruin the business as well as the friendship. Although the pair may have known each other for years and believe they understand their habits, there are going to be differences in the approach on the job than in their approach at the ballgame or the fishing hole.

A complete, undisputable outline of responsibilities will have to be established so there can be no confusion about which partner is responsible for what function in the business as well as steps needed to reconcile any personality struggles that arise. Although they may known each other well, when it comes to running a business, it is easy to place blame on someone than it is to accept self responsibility.

When disagreements begin, and there will be arguments, they should never take place in front of customers or other employees, if there are any, and disagreements should be handled in the professional manner with workplace protocol and not like a bickering married couple. Some folks who went into business with a friend, in fact, use that thinking to stem arguments; when they begin to argue, one will comment that they are acting like an old married couple, which usually sparks laughter and they can then work out their difference to the betterment of the business.

When going into business with a friend both must be willing to accept the faults of the other and understand they are going to have different approaches to the same circumstances. Understanding those differences will lead to the same results should head off many disagreements with the simple notion that people will do things differently while reaching the same conclusion.

They also have to have the same goals in mind before the business gets off the ground, and have to agree on timelines with which to achieve those goals. While this will be part of their basic business plan they will also have to agree on ways to monitor the goals to insure the business is on track to achieving them without laying individual blame if they fall short.

Above all, no matter good of friends they are, or how long they have known each other everything relating to the business needs to be in contract form. Every aspect of running the business needs to be in writing and not just a handshake. After all, even people in love who get married may need to sign a pre-nuptial agreement.

How To get Information About Starting Your Own Business
Copyright © Roderick Eash
http://www.TheEashSyndicate.com

Before quitting the full time job and hanging a shingle outside your door, you need to make sure you know all about running the business, and not just how to perform the function of the business that you plan to open. There is more to owning a carper cleaning business than being the best carpet cleaner in the county. It is called a business because there are functions that need to be done beyond cleaning carpets.

Depending on the type of business you plan to get into there may be specific laws governing its operation and in some cases a state or county license may be needed to operate the business. Zoning laws may also be in place to prevent the operation of some business out of the home and planning to run the business from a stand-alone building you should also check to make sure the business can operate there as well. There are times that one type of business, an office building for example, may allow a bookkeeping service in the area, but zoning rules may consider your business not appropriate for the location.

Checking with local and county offices can help insure you have all the licenses and permits needed to operate the business before you get it started and find out it does not meet acceptable use clauses. Regardless of the business, you will need a license from the state to collect sales tax, sometimes referred to as a vendor’s license. Whether your business will be selling taxable products or services, the license is still necessary and you will need to file returns to show if, and how much sales tax you collected and make the payments.

Contacting your local Chamber of Commerce is an excellent source for information about starting your own business and their advice can keep you out of trouble with authorities that regulate business operations in your area. They may also advise you if different nearby communities have differing rules covering your type of business. Even non-members can take advantage of the information available through most Chambers of Commerce and they are always willing to help potential new members get their feet on the business ground.

For those planning to start a franchised business, there are many resources available to help you pick the right one for you as well as for the community in which you live. Most who buy a franchise do so based on the name recognition of the company and the information made available to them. While your interest level may be high, check with other franchisees of the same business for their opinions and get the real story about the pros and cons of running that business before making the investment.

How to Form a Weekly Business Plan
Copyright © Roderick Eash
http://www.TheEashSyndicate.com

Reading is becoming a lost art, but reading a business plan can be very boring.
Business plans are important, especially to the boss or a perspective business associate.

It is best to get the facts and figures out there and not lose your audience in doing so.
A contents list is a good place to start. If someone is looking for something in
particular, they will know where to begin looking. In order for them to locate the
information, make sure you number your pages and use a consistent heading plan.
Business strategies should be developed and progress as the project goes along.
They should summarize the project as you go through each week. This would also be a good place to include the original idea for the project. Be sure to include the current status of the project.

In the financial section of the report, you should include the weekly expenditures
and show the progression to the overall project expenditures. Use Simple charts to show
trends, but avoid complex spreadsheets. These should be put in an appendix in the back of the plan. Included in this section should be projected income statements, cash flow
forecasts, balance sheets and analyses. Remember the simpler, the better.

A marketing section should be included in your report. This can show regional
competition and how you will differ from them. A marketing analysis is a good move.
Your sales plan should be based on the sales projections with current market
values. You should be as explicit as possible. Don't load this section with phrases such as first-to-market, customer driven, etc. Describe your plans or ideas as simply as possible.

This section should include your plans about management teams and operational issues. These issues include production and delivery.

Using different font sizes, types, and colors will give your report an eye catching
appeal. Be sure to use the spell checker. Nothing takes away from a report more than a
misspelled word. Getting a second opinion from a qualified outsider is also a good idea.
Now that you have completed your report, you need to include a summary or conclusion
section. It's time to wrap up the report with a positive view of your business/project.

Limit your conclusion in a few short paragraphs that are well drafted. This should be
written once your report is completed. At this time, you might want to check for a few small details. Is this plan a good length, presentable and grammatically correct? Is the funding reasonable and the expenses correct? Have all questions been answered? Once you are satisfied with your report, get a second opinion. It is likely you will need to do several revisions. Remember that this is your business, so put your best foot forward.

How to Find Great Insurance When You Own a Business
Copyright © Roderick Eash
http://www.TheEashSyndicate.com

Insurance is one of the most important business expense that that any business, whether
small, medium, or mega corporation, needs. Depending on the type of business you are
operating, it can include any number of different types of insurance needs. The most
common business insurance includes building insurance, travel insurance, liability
insurance, accident insurance, life insurance, short-term disability insurance, automobile
insurance, insurance on equipment and supplies, life insurance, and health insurance. For
some businesses, there may also be a need for malpractice insurance. Even if a company
doesn't provide any of the insurance to its employees because of its size, there is certainly
a need for its owners or partners to carry insurance not only on the business, but on
themselves as well. Larger companies will more than likely have a variety of different
choices for its employees, and the size of the company along with the company's
contribution will be the basis for the cost to an employee.

Finding insurance itself is not a major problem for anyone, but finding insurance that
meets the needs of your business at an affordable price can indeed be an issue. Insurance
companies rate business insurance based upon the number of participants and the number
of claims. For a company who has a high rate of claims for health insurance, for example,
will pay a higher premium than one who has fewer claims. Of course, a company does
not have to accept these terms, and many times they don't. Anyone who works for a
company who provides health insurance can see how often they tend to change providers,
sometimes annually. Other insurance rates do not appear to be so volatile, and thus, they
tend to be with the same company for the long haul. However, it isn't easy finding
business insurance at reasonable 9rates, and quite often it takes a great deal of planning
and research to locate the best rates.

For a business, finding good insurance is pertinent not only to employee morale, but in
current and future profitability of the business as well. When it comes to business
insurance, the best way is to find a multi-line agent/broker who works with different
insurance carriers. By doing that, your insurance broker is able to shop for the best rates
for your company in terms of cost to benefits. Though searching individually may be a
feasible possibility for the average person, a business has different needs than an
individual, thus it makes financial sense to allow someone with the expertise of an
insurance broker/agent to search the market for rates that are within the budget of the
company and meets its insurance needs. It also gives them the added benefit of having
just one contact person for all of their insurance needs.

How To Create A Business Budget
Copyright © Roderick Eash
http://www.TheEashSyndicate.com

When you have a home business, something that you are going to have to focus on is how you are getting the money you need to keep it up and running. There are several ways to do this, but the best thing that you can do for yourself is to create a home business budget that you can follow, which will help you to be sure you are bringing in more money than you are spending, and therefore being successful with your business.

Steps To A Budget

The first thing that you have to remember when you are creating a home business budget is that there are several steps you need to consider in order to do it well, and to give yourself a chance for the best success. The first thing that you have to do in order to create a budget is to set aside some money for start up costs. Remember that no matter how good your budget is, you are going to need extra money to get started, and a lot of people who find themselves with home businesses end up spending more money in the first year than they thought they would. You are going to have to either have some money saved up to start your business, or you should take out a small business loan that you can pay back as soon as you have started to make money.

Then, the next step in creating a home business budget is to take a look at the things that you have been doing in your home business and set your spending limits for the products, materials, and the salaries of any employees, including yourself. You have to set these at a place where they make sense, for instance you shouldn’t give yourself less money than you can live on, because then the business idea just isn’t going to work.

The next thing that you have to do is to decide how much you are going to need to bring in to meet these costs. Then, you can set a reasonable price per unit or service, and the amount of products or services you plan on selling each year.

Once you have the monetary figures set up for your yearly budget, the final step is to decide how you are going to do this. Are you going to try to steadily sell your product all year long, or are there certain seasons where you expect to make more money and where you feel as if you are going to be making money? If you have a product or service that has these kinds of off times and on times, you are going to want to adjust your budget so that this reflects this.

How To Choose The Perfect Home Business Idea
Copyright © Roderick Eash
http://www.TheEashSyndicate.com

A lot of people get stumped when it comes to choosing a home business. In some cases, people are confused as to what home business they will engage in that they either end up starting a few home businesses at the same time or never really start anything at all. In both cases, the entrepreneur does not gain anything of value. If you are of those people who have no idea what home business is right for you, you should first make an inventory of your skills and resources before you attempt to start any type of home business. Always remember that at home business is not something that will grow on its own so make sure that you know what you are doing if you do not want to end with lots of frustrations and no money.

Choose Something That You Are Familiar With

When it comes to choosing the perfect home business idea, it would be a good idea for you to focus your attention on the things that you are familiar with. For instance, if you are a computer programmer, it would be a good idea for you to explore the possibilities of engaging into a programming business. On the other hand, if you are one of those people who love to work with your hands, it would be a good idea for you to find a business that will put your creativity to good use. Never attempt to start a home business that requires certain skills that you do not have at the moment. Note that it is always easier for you to spot opportunities in a field that you are very much familiar with. Yes, you can always learn new skills but since learning new skills will take a lot of item, effort and money on your part, you might as well stick to the things that you already know and save yourself from a lot of trouble. There is really no point in going through all the troubles of learning new things when you can capitalize on the things that you already know.

Find The Softest Entry Point

When it comes to setting up your home business, you need to probe into a specific industry and find a “soft entry” point. For instance, if you are a writer and you would like to engage into online writing, it would be a good idea for you to start working on some non-paying or low-paying jobs for a while and build your portfolio. Once you have collected some impressive items in your portfolio, you can move on to those high paying jobs and earn some really good income. Take your time when it comes to setting up your small business. Always remember that business do not grow overnight so be patient. There may be times when money is scarce and your business will not do so well but if you are patient and work hard towards your goal, you will eventually achieve that goal.

How Create A Monthly Business Plan
Copyright © Roderick Eash
http://www.TheEashSyndicate.com

Running your own business is tough enough with all the work that needs done and staying organized in order to meet your business goals can be time consuming. There is an old saying that says a failure to plan is planning to fail and any business plan you may have assembled may be fine to get your business off the ground, but day-to-day planning will help insure you meet the overall planned goals.

However, large scale planning is similar to eating an elephant and has to be done one bite at a time. You will need to learn how to create a monthly business plan, as accomplishing things on a monthly basis will help keep you on track to meet annual goals. If your business is not planned properly for every month of the year, the 12-month totals cannot be met.

Beginning by breaking down your year into 12 equal bites will help you focus on different aspects of the business as well as planning ahead. For example, your business is in retail there will be holidays throughout the year that will affect it and if you do not plan accordingly, sales will not be available. Selling Christmas ornaments for instance, if you do not plan to have them available at least two, possibly three months ahead of time, when they do arrive it may be too late to sell them as most everyone will already own them.

Your business, regardless of what it is will have cycles during which different things will affect its popularity. Your monthly business plan should be created one month at a time, but at least three months ahead of time. Meaning, whatever you plan to do in April should be part of your January monthly business plan. While not everything can be planned 90 days ahead, having it noted on your plan in January to plan for lawn services to begin in April will give you enough time to get it done before all the lawn service companies are booked and cannot get to your lawn.

Your monthly business plan should be set up similar to your profit and loss statement with expected income and expenses with contingencies available for unplanned events. You should also include in your monthly business plan corrections to anything that did not go the way you expected it to go so that when planning the following year’s monthly calendar you are reminded of what did not work and avoid repeating the mistake. These corrections of errors can also help prevent someone else repeating the mistakes if for some reason you delegate the plan writing to someone who was not involved when the mistakes occurred.

While the monthly business plan is important, it can start as an outline and be filled in as the plans for daily and weekly business operations are finalized. They can then be rolled up into the monthly business plan and subsequently into quarterly and annual plans.

Hiring Someone To Do Your Business Website
Copyright © Roderick Eash
http://www.TheEashSyndicate.com

As you work on your home business, and on making your business the best that it can be, the idea of having a website is probably something you have come to realize is very important. Even if the majority of your business is local, a website is still something that most people have come to rely on, and if you don’t’ have one you run the risk of falling behind others when it comes to your business and to your customers. This means that you have to take hold of your website needs and make sure that they are filled as easily as possible.

Websites

Websites are going to be the basis of your company, especially if most of your customers find you online. This means that you have to take charge and you have to make sure you have a good website. This probably means that you want to at least think about hiring someone to do your website.

Hiring someone is going to take money, and it is going to take time. However, if you want to have the best website possible, and if you want to attract the most customers to your website, you have to have one that is spectacular. There are a lot of neat things that can be done with websites today, and so you have to be sure that you are having a good one. If you don’t have any website knowledge, you have to hire someone.

Things To Think About

As you hire someone to do your website, there are several things that you have to think about so that you know your website is going to meet your needs. First of all, you have to remember that while these people do this for a living, it is still your business. This means that you have to hire someone who is willing to take your ideas into consideration when designing your website and who is willing to help you create a website that is going to get you the most business.

You also have to remember that websites are not going to be permanent. As times change, you have to be able to change your website, whether it is to reflect a change in prices, or items, or anything else. This means that either your web site creator has to teach you how to update the site, or there has to be something in the contract that says that they will update the site when you need it to be updated. Either one of these has to happen, because you have to be able to change your website as you need to. A good working relationship is going to be very important when it comes to your web site.
